52 Games - 1 Year Challenge - 2014 #1

Disclaimer: I did not come up with the idea for this challenge. It orignated from noegaf. Link to the post I heard about it from -  http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=743509

EDIT:  Unfortunately, I've been busy this year when I restarted my blog and was unable to finish and keep blogging about the challenge so since I'm being lazy, here is a list of games I finished this year (not much and no where near the required 52 but I will attempt it properly next year~)

1 - Harvest Moon: A New Beginning
2 -  Sleeping Dogs
3 - Payday 2
4 - Assassins Creed 2 (not quite finished but super close so I am sure I will finish it this year (tomorrow))
5 - Sid Meier's Civilization 5 (my first steam game~)
6 - Killing Floor
7 - Long Live The Queen
8 - Papers Please

aaand yeah... that's it...

The Post

I know this is really late in the year with the year close to being over but university break is coming (though it's not going to be long for me as I will be attending some summer classes at my university) so I want to see how close I can get to 52 in this period of time.

For this series of blog posts, I will post the name of the game along with the game's trailer as well as a brief description of the game and a mini review of the game.

The rules of the challenge are:
-Games must be completed in 2014
-DLCs count as one game
-Games without an ending or multiplay games, you must have put at least 10 hours into the game
-Replays are can be counted towards the total
-Have fun!

I'll start off with one game as I am quite busy with my studies right now which you can probably tell by the lack of reviews...(sorry...)

Game #1
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (3DS)

Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is a farming simulation game where you are a new farmer and slowly improve and customise a town. Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is the first game to bring customisation to the franchise (you can customise your character's appearance as well as the town!)and it also sees the return of reverse proposals!! As Harvest Moon is one of my faveoute franchises, I naturally had to play this game.

As I said before I am short on time at the moment due to my studies so I'm going to apologize in advance for being lazy and just listing what I liked and disliked about the game (I said mini review didn't I?) as well as any weird phrasings and typo as this was just a spur of the moment idea I just had to write a post about so it's not throughly edited.

What I liked about the game:

-The dating system. I really like how you have to date before you marry as well as having to be close to other character your target is close with and that you can only date one character at a time. I think it helps the player develop a better connection with the character as you can only focus your attention on one character at a time or else your boyfriend/girlfriend will get jealous and courting two characters is like taking one step forward and two step back.

-Character customisation. I abdolutely love character customisation. I find it helps me connect better with the character as I can project an idealized self onto the character and results in me feeling a closer bond witht the character I'm playing as opposed to a character with a set appearance.

-It's a fun realxing game that can help you unwind especially after a stressful day (which happens to me quite frequently at the end of a semester haha).

What I didn't really like about the game:

-The dating system. Although I have stated above that I enjoy the dating system of this game, I wish you could pursue more than one romantically at a time as I really enjoy watching the heart events and the bond between the characters grow.

-I also didn't really enjoy the town customization much as it can be a pain at times. Sometimes when I play this game I just want to grow my town as fast as possible but this is a bit tedious with the town customizations. Because I like the houses to be as close to their original position as possible (well the starting ones anyways) the problem for me it that it is quite hard or near impossible for me and I have to carefully plan your town for all the buildings to fit and I feel that it can make the game a bit of a pain to play at times...

Oops... I've written a bit too much for the 'mini' review but that's because there are so many options in Harvest Moon and my love for the franchise. I promise my mini review will be mini next time (I might not be able to continue this series if I kept writing like this as I will probably be busy during the summer session at university...)

See you in my next post!

n.c~
